Bayer 04 Leverkusen successfully played their first home match of the new Bundesliga season on Saturday, September 5th, defeating Union Berlin 4:0. Coach Carlos Martínez's team led 2:0 after the first half and demonstrated a clear reaction to their unsuccessful start to the season in Elversberg in front of their own fans. Die Zeit ↗
Leverkusen was under pressure after the opening defeat, as newcomer SV Elversberg had surprised them a week earlier with a 3:2 victory. Against Union, however, the home side showed a different face and controlled the match. For the Berlin team, Leverkusen remains a difficult place, as they again failed to take points from there. Elversberg also confirmed that their success against Leverkusen was not an isolated case. The newcomer also won in Mönchengladbach, despite facing an expulsion and the match being accompanied by controversial circumstances in a throw-in decision. After two rounds, they have two victories and rank among the most striking stories at the start of the Bundesliga season. Die Zeit ↗
The results of the second round indicated different directions for both teams following their opening mutual match. Leverkusen repaired their reputation with a high victory over Union, while Elversberg continues their surprising start among the elite. n-tv ↗
