Users also reported that logging in, card payments, and currency exchange were not working. The outage began appearing in the morning hours, after which the number of reports increased significantly. In some cases, practically no main function of the app was available. Telex ↗

The likely cause is considered to be a failure of several Google Cloud platform services in the London data center, specifically in the europe-west2 region. The problem affected servers on which parts of Revolut's infrastructure also run. The disruption therefore also appeared outside the United Kingdom and affected users across a wider European area. Revolut stated that its technical team is working to restore services. The company also assured customers that their funds and personal data remain safe. It is not clear how long it will take for all functions to be fully restored. El Pais ↗

The outage demonstrated the dependence of digital banks on cloud infrastructure provided by large technology companies. Further developments will depend on the resolution of the fault in the London Google Cloud region and the gradual return of Revolut's services to normal operation. Le Figaro ↗
