Ryanair expects record airfare price hike in 2027

Airfare prices in Europe could rise by up to 20 percent next year. Ryanair CEO Michael O'Leary predicts the most significant increase in air travel costs in Europe's history. idnes.cz ↗

The price rise is expected to be driven mainly by more expensive jet fuel, whose price is being pushed up by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. O'Leary pointed out that several airlines do not have sufficient fuel price hedging against further increases. According to him, higher costs could therefore be passed on to passengers. Ryanair also expects a weaker supply of flight connections. The combination of more expensive fuel and limited capacity could create pressure on ticket prices across the European market. The anticipated increase would mainly concern the year 2027. hnonline.sk ↗

O'Leary stated that the price increase may not fully cover the additional costs that airlines will face. The extent of the price rise will depend on further developments in fuel prices, the situation in the Middle East, and the available capacity of individual carriers. HVG ↗

If these factors materialize, air travel in Europe will be significantly more expensive next year than it is now. Ryanair expects that the development of fuel prices and the supply of connections will remain decisive for final ticket prices. Telex ↗
