Bezpečnostná rada Organizácie Spojených národov je orgán OSN poverený udržiavaním medzinárodného mieru a bezpečnosti. Zatiaľ čo uznesenia ostatných orgánov OSN sú pre členské štáty OSN len odporúčacie, uznesenia Bezpečnostnej rady sú záväzné a rada si ich splnenie môže vynútiť aj silou. Uznesenia rady sú známe ako Rezolúcie OSN. Slovensko bolo naposledy nestálym členom v období od 1. januára 2006 a v rámci svojho postu zorganizovala a iniciovala vytvorenie skupiny Priatelia OSN pre reformu bezpečnostného sektora. Slovensko v súčasnosti podľa pravidiel nie je nestálym členom Bezpečnostnej rady OSN, ale naďalej predsedá tejto skupine. Cieľom reformy bezpečnostného sektora je naplniť potreby modernizácie OSN.
