Czech Republic may request exemption from EU migration pact

The European Commission has listed the Czech Republic among countries facing a significant migration situation and threatened by migration pressure. The decision is related primarily to the high number of refugees from Ukraine that the Czech Republic has taken in. denik.cz ↗

Based on this classification, the Czech Republic can request a full or partial exemption from the mandatory solidarity mechanism that is part of the new EU migration pact. The exemption would concern the country's further involvement in this mechanism. e15.cz ↗

The European Commission thus acknowledged that the Czech Republic has faced significant migration burden in recent years. Being listed among the threatened countries does not in itself mean automatic exemption from obligations, but it creates the possibility of applying for an exemption. novinky.cz ↗

The further process will depend on the decision of the Czech authorities and on the assessment of the application within the European mechanism. The Czech Republic may seek a full exemption, or only a partial limitation of the obligations arising from the migration pact. STVR (Minúta po minúte) ↗
