What Europe Writes About: USA Attacked Iran for the Second Time in 48 Hours, Putin Blames Germany for Planting Evidence, Venezuela Allowed USA Access to a Fifth of Its Oil

The night from Tuesday to Wednesday brought the second wave of American strikes on Iran within forty-eight hours. According to Iranian state media, one of the bombs hit a house in the middle of a wedding near the city of Ahvaz – at least four people were killed, including a small child, and more than fifty others were injured. Iran responded with ballistic missiles and drones against American bases in Jordan, Bahrain and Kuwait and announced the start of an operation it called "decisive". Brent crude oil price exceeded 94 dollars per barrel, European gas is the most expensive since 2023.

The second topic of the night is a drone attack on Leipzig airport. Putin in Bishkek accused Germany of planting evidence of the attack and called German sanctions a "serious mistake". Belgium summoned the Russian ambassador, Macron is calling for new European sanctions. And thirdly: German investigators in a parallel act of sabotage on the electrical network in Brandenburg are examining a lead that does not fit the hypothesis of Russian responsibility.

Limits of This View

The overview is based on headlines and summaries from RSS feeds of European media over a nine-hour window from September 1 at 20:20 to September 2 at 05:20. It is neither a complete picture of the night nor a verified report - it is what appeared on the front pages in individual countries at that time.

In the Iranian war, casualty figures should be read with caution: the figures of four dead and more than fifty injured near Ahvaz come from Iranian state media, while the Revolutionary Guards' claim of a “large number” of fallen American soldiers in Jordan has not been independently confirmed. The same applies to Leipzig, where two versions stand against each other - the German government speaks of Russian responsibility, the Kremlin of planted evidence - and a formal investigation is still ongoing. The lead in the Brandenburg sabotage is still an investigative hypothesis, not a conclusion.
