According to media reports, the two countries are moving closer to mutual understanding. aktuality.sk ↗
The Brussels negotiations are also linked to the approval of a Ukrainian law that could open the way for further rapprochement between Ukraine and the European Union. Details of its content and the specific commitments it would entail have not yet been disclosed. ekonomika.pravda.sk ↗
Hungary and Ukraine have clashed in the past, mainly over issues of European integration and mutual relations. Friday's talks could therefore create an opportunity to open up topics that have long caused tension between the two countries.
The outcome of the meeting may indicate whether the declared rapprochement will translate into more concrete cooperation. Attention will focus especially on how the leaders comment on Ukraine's European future and on the further development of Hungarian-Ukrainian relations.
