A village in the Žilina district lost more than €77,000 in a fraudulent scheme on Friday. Unknown perpetrators contacted the village representative through several phone numbers and the Signal communication app. teraz.sk ↗

According to findings so far, the fraudsters posed as police officers. They subsequently obtained remote access to the municipal office's computer from the village representative. Using this access, they allegedly carried out unauthorized banking transactions. myzilina.sme.sk ↗

Police are investigating the case as fraud. The identity of the perpetrators, as well as the exact method by which they convinced the village representative to grant access to the computer, has not yet been disclosed.
