Schillerová admits changes to the conflict-of-interest amendment
The dispute concerned primarily the possible impact of the amendment on Babiš's relationship to the Agrofert holding. Schillerová stated that, in her view, the prime minister will not have influence over the holding. Kupka disputed this claim and criticized the amendment as a purposeful change of the rules. According to one of the statements described, he labeled part of the process surrounding the proposal a schoolboy error. idnes.cz ↗
The debate was not limited to the conflict of interest alone. Schillerová and Kupka also clashed over budget rules and assessed the current cabinet's six months in office. The discussion also touched on the topic of future municipal cooperation. seznamzpravy.cz ↗
Further developments will depend on whether the government or members of parliament actually incorporate into the proposal the changes that Schillerová admitted were possible. The political dispute will apparently continue to focus on the question of whether the amendment generally regulates the rules for public officials, or whether it in fact addresses Andrej Babiš's position. forum24.cz ↗
