A Russian drone struck a target in Ukraine near the Polish border. According to available information, the incident occurred several hundred meters to approximately two kilometers from the border. The locomotive of a passenger train heading from Kyiv to Warsaw was reportedly hit, while other reports spoke of a fuel station being struck.

The activation of Polish and allied aircraft was related to concern that Russian attacks could reach the airspace of a NATO member country. The alert was part of the response to intense attacks carried out against Ukrainian territory near the border. Independent ↗

The Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs stated that NATO has a significant air superiority over Russia and that in the event of a Russian attack on the alliance, it would be able to defeat Moscow quickly. The Kremlin, meanwhile, described the Russian strikes near the Polish border as justified. Independent ↗

Given its geographical location, Poland remains one of the most exposed NATO member countries. Further developments will depend on the scale of Russian attacks in western Ukraine and on whether the alliance's airspace is violated. ANSA ↗
