Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar continues, following the transfer of power, to press Fidesz and Viktor Orbán's legacy. After the earlier dispute over an alleged refugee camp in Vitnyéd, new proposals have emerged to limit prime ministerial terms, recover assets, and resolve the constitutional conflict surrounding President Tamás Sulyok. Magyar had previously claimed that Orbán's government was preparing a facility for migrants in Vitnyéd, while also publicly rejecting a return to the former cabinet's policies. New articles add that Hungarian lawmakers have approved a constitutional amendment that would allow prime ministers to hold office for a maximum of eight years. The rule would effectively prevent any possible return of Viktor Orbán to the head of government. Magyar is also asking Tisza to support the strictest version of the proposals concerning the office for asset recovery and protection. According to more recent information, the office itself might not be established until September, following a brief public comment period. HVG ↗

Fidesz is responding with attacks on Magyar's inner circle. The party accused Tisza's legal expert Márton Melléthei-Barna of a secret agreement with constitutional judge Marcel Szabó, which Melléthei-Barna denied. The dispute relates to a submission by President Sulyok that apparently did not make it onto the agenda after seven constitutional judges were excluded from the proceedings. Sulyok initially indicated he would fight to remain in office, but according to newer reports he later took note of the judges' decision. Der Standard ↗

Alongside the domestic disputes, Magyar's government is also changing its foreign policy tone. Following an agreement on the rights of the Hungarian minority in Transcarpathia, Hungary withdrew its blockade of Ukraine's EU accession process, although the prime minister rejected accelerating it without conditions. Minister Anita Orbán also stated that documents were left destroyed by the previous leadership of the ministry. Further developments will focus on Monday's parliamentary session on June 22, Fidesz's reaction, and the practical setup of the new asset recovery office. Telex ↗
