Egypt hit by earthquake, tremors also felt in Cairo

According to Egypt's National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics, the earthquake's epicenter was located approximately 40 kilometers north of the coastal city of Suez. The ground tremors frightened residents over a wider area, as they were felt even outside the immediate vicinity of Suez. teraz.sk ↗

Following the earthquake, Egyptian authorities preventively ordered the activation of emergency and crisis plans across the entire country. The measure concerned the readiness of rescue and crisis units, including structures of the Red Crescent, which are part of the emergency response. SITA ↗

Reports do not provide confirmed data on casualties or the extent of material damage. Further developments will depend on the assessment of the consequences in the affected areas and on any possible aftershocks, which authorities may continue to monitor.
