Czech junior athletes succeeded at the world championship in Eugene, USA. Michal Rada became junior world champion in the 400 metres hurdles and with a time of 48.59 seconds set a European junior record. At the same championship, pole vaulter Nicole Krutilová also won gold, and decathlete Adam Juliš won bronze. lidovky.cz ↗
Rada built on his second place finish from the junior championship two years ago and in Eugene pushed his result all the way to the title. The nineteen-year-old hurdler thus ranked among the most prominent Czech performances at the championship, as he combined the triumph with a record time in the European junior rankings. idnes.cz ↗
Krutilová also added a significant Czech success, winning the pole vault competition with a performance of 445 centimetres. She thus built on the eight-year-old gold of Amálie Švábíková from the junior world championship in Tampere. Švábíková is today a Czech record holder, and Krutilová thus confirmed in Eugene the continuation of a strong Czech tradition in this discipline. denik.cz ↗
Czech's medal count was completed by Adam Juliš's bronze in the decathlon. The results from Eugene show that Czech junior athletics gained several medal mainstays in various disciplines at a single championship. Further attention can now be focused on how the medalists build on their junior successes in the following seasons. isport.cz ↗
