Volkswagen wants to freeze wages at Škoda Auto until 2030

According to the KOVO trade union, the Volkswagen Group is demanding a freeze on Škoda Auto employees' wages until 2030. Unionists reject this demand and describe the situation as serious. According to them, the measure is not meant to affect only base wages, but also bonuses, premiums and other supplements. denik.cz ↗

The unions stated that the demand follows broader cost-saving measures that Volkswagen is pushing through at its plants. According to their statement, a freeze on compensation would mean that Škoda Auto employees would not benefit from wage growth for several years, even though the changes are meant to affect the entire compensation system.

Union representatives disagree with the proposal and have signaled that they are prepared to act firmly. In their responses, they also mentioned the possibility of halting plants and strikes if the management insisted on the demand. Details of a specific timeline for any potential protest have not yet been published. ekonomickydenik.cz ↗

According to the unions, Volkswagen is also pushing for a wage freeze until 2030 in other parts of the group. The impact on Škoda Auto employees and further proceedings will depend on negotiations between the automaker's management and the trade union organization. The unions also indicated that they will not allow zero wage growth. seznamzpravy.cz ↗
