Pope Leo XIV will carry the cross at all stations of the Way of the Cross at the Colosseum

During Good Friday, Pope Leo XIV will become the first pope in more than six decades to personally carry the cross at all fourteen stations of the evening Way of the Cross procession at the Colosseum in Rome. This marks a return to the tradition that Pope Paul VI revived at the Colosseum, one that subsequent popes had not maintained in quite the same form. The pope's predecessor Francis, who died on Easter Monday last year, did not carry the cross during the Way of the Cross. The evening cross procession at the Colosseum is one of the pope's most significant meditations during Holy Week, and its broadcast will be aired in Slovak media. The return of this tradition represents an important symbolic moment in the structure of Easter ceremonies at the Vatican and underscores the pope's physical participation in the liturgical life of the Church. hnonline.sk ↗ svet.sme.sk ↗
