Trump wanted to keep a medal during the hockey players' visit to the White House, Democrats criticize his speech

US President Donald Trump welcomed the American men's national hockey team, who triumphed at the Winter Olympics, to the White House on Tuesday. During the visit, Trump even wanted to keep one of their Olympic medals, and the hockey players lent it to him. Trump invited the winners on a tour of his office and the West Wing. In his State of the Union address, Trump announced that goaltender Connor Hellebuyck would receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom for his contribution to winning the gold medal.

Five players were missing among the hockey team's visitors. During a phone call with the men's national team, Trump also allowed himself a joke at the expense of the women's team, saying that if he hadn't invited them, he would probably have been removed from office. This remark drew criticism, and the women's team sent Trump a clear message in response to his comment.

Meanwhile, Democratic politicians are sharply criticizing the State of the Union address itself. Senator Chuck Schumer called the speech delusional and detached from reality, claiming that Trump did not address the problems of ordinary Americans. Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger stated in the Democratic response that Trump lied during the speech and did not present a solution to the problems. The British newspaper The Guardian wrote that in his speech Trump once again tried to poison American politics and divide Americans.

At the same time, fifteen Democrat-led U.S. states filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration over the reduction in the number of vaccines recommended for children, which they consider a step contrary to scientific knowledge. Meanwhile, Iran labeled Trump's statements about its nuclear and missile program as lies. The U.S. also warned Ukraine that attacks on Russian oil facilities near the Black Sea have also affected American investments in Kazakhstan.
