MEP Konečná ended her membership in the KSČM

MEP and former chairwoman of the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia (KSČM) Kateřina Konečná has ended her membership in the party. This was announced on Wednesday, November 4, by the party's current chairman Roman Roun. seznamzpravy.cz ↗

Konečná serves in the European Parliament for the Stačilo! movement. Despite leaving the party's ranks, according to Roun she is to continue cooperating with the KSČM. At the same time, she is to continue defending the party's program. forum24.cz ↗

Konečná was a member of the KSČM for 21 years and in the past led it as chairwoman. Her decision comes at a time when, in connection with her future political activity, there is discussion about joining the Patrioti movement. One of the explanations reported in the media links her departure from the party with an effort to prevent criticism and public lynching over this step. zpravy.aktualne.cz ↗

Roun confirmed that the termination of her membership does not change the planned cooperation between Konečná and the KSČM. Details about her future political activity, as well as the specific form of the cooperation, have not yet been announced. denik.cz ↗

The former chairwoman's departure represents a change in her formal relationship with the KSČM, but according to the party leadership's statement, it is not meant to signify a severing of ties with the communist party. Konečná is to continue serving in the European Parliament and advocating the programmatic positions with which she has so far been associated. idnes.cz ↗
