Harry Kane won the 2026 Ballon d'Or in an extremely close vote. The Bayern Munich striker edged out Real Madrid's Kylian Mbappé by just 28 points. The official results of the poll were published by the magazine France Football. n-tv ↗
The English international became the winner of the prestigious individual football trophy, but his victory was decided by only a minimal difference in the journalists' rankings. Mbappé finished second, and it was only the publication of the complete results that revealed how close he came to winning the award. Tagesspiegel ↗
A total of 100 journalists took part in the vote, choosing among 30 nominated footballers. Kane received the highest number of points, with his lead over the French striker being, according to the published data, one of the narrowest in the history of the award. Le Figaro ↗
The result recalled previous closely contested battles for the Ballon d'Or, when only small differences in voting decided the winner. In the current edition, attention focused primarily on the duel between Kane and Mbappé, who play for two major European clubs. eurofotbal.cz ↗
Kane thus secured the most prestigious individual award in world football, while Mbappé had to settle for second place. The published point differences also confirmed that only a handful of voting preferences determined the winner. sport.sk ↗
