Klaus Zellmer leaves Škoda Auto to head Volvo Cars

Klaus Zellmer will end his role as chairman of the board of automaker Škoda Auto and become the new president and chief executive officer of Volvo Cars. The Swedish automaker announced that he will take up the role by October 1, 2027 at the latest. hnonline.sk ↗

Zellmer has led Škoda Auto since July 2022. Before that, he worked at Porsche and subsequently at the Volkswagen Group, to which Škoda belongs. His departure also means leaving the entire Volkswagen Group. Spiegel.de ↗

At Volvo Cars, he will replace the current CEO, Hakan Samuelsson, who, according to the automaker's announcement, will step down once his current contract ends. The exact date of Zellmer's arrival has not yet been determined, but the company has set the latest deadline for early October 2027. teraz.sk ↗

The change comes at a time when the automotive industry is facing strong competition, pressure to cut costs, and the rapid development of electromobility. Volvo Cars is part of the Chinese group Geely, which owns the automaker. After leaving Škoda, Zellmer will thus take over the leadership of a brand operating in both the European and global markets. info.cz ↗

Škoda Auto will have to select a new chairman of the board in the near future. The company has not yet announced who will replace Zellmer or what the exact timeline for the handover will be. Further developments will depend on decisions made by Škoda's board, the Volkswagen Group, and the Volvo Cars ownership group.
