New Order drummer Stephen Morris doesn't know if he'll ever play with the band again: "It's quite serious"
Stephen Morris admitted that he has no idea whether he'll ever play with New Order again. In June, the band confirmed on social media that he and fellow founding member Gillian Gilbert would be taking a break from touring for health reasons. Far Out Magazine ↗
The statement read: "For personal health reasons, Stephen and Gillian will not be performing live in the foreseeable future and will not be joining this show either. Bernard, Phil and Tom are truly sorry that Stephen and Gillian can't join them this time, but circumstances unfortunately make it impossible." New Order are set to visit Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Peru and Colombia this year. Far Out Magazine ↗
In a new interview with Rolling Stone, Morris confirmed that health problems will likely also prevent him from attending the band's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, taking place on November 14. "I've got a bit of a health issue at the moment that makes it impossible for me to leave the country for any length of time," he admitted. Far Out Magazine ↗
"We tried it. We were in New York a few months ago for the Ian Curtis lyrics exhibition, and we thought: let's see how it goes. If it goes well, maybe it would be worth considering… And it was only two days and it ended in disaster. So maybe not, maybe, but I really can't say," he described. Far Out Magazine ↗
He doesn't want to say what the problem actually is. "I really don't want to get into what the illness is, but it's quite serious. It's not something anyone's going to come up with a cure for," he said. Still, he has no intention of giving up playing: "I can't not make music. That would be like losing a leg, or something much worse." Far Out Magazine ↗
