Amanda Lear accuses Miley Cyrus of plagiarism. She had the songs compared via ChatGPT

Amanda Lear has accused Miley Cyrus of copying one of her most famous songs. It's "The Sphinx" from 1978, which later ended up on the album Never Trust A Pretty Face. The target is "Redlights," the sixth track from Bass Persuades — the American pop star's new album, released on September 18. OndaRock ↗

Lear herself was the first to flag the matter, in an ironic Instagram post: "Thank you, Miley, for this tribute to my song 'The Sphinx,' I'm flattered," she wrote, adding the hashtags #ripoff and #copycat. Her suspicion was actually raised by fans. "They contacted me saying: 'Amanda, you have to hear this, it's a disgrace,'" she said, adding that fans "always exaggerate a bit." OndaRock ↗

After listening to "Redlights," however, she became convinced the similarities were substantial. In an interview with Le Parisien, she explained that she turned to her producer and record label to compare the two compositions. According to her, the analysis confirmed the same melody as well as the same rhythmic structure — "Redlights" is simply played at a faster tempo. She said ChatGPT was also used for the comparison: "They analyzed every single line of both songs using ChatGPT, and it's incredible what technology can do today. And indeed, the melody and rhythm are the same. She did of course change the lyrics, but it's undeniable that it's the result..." OndaRock ↗

According to the Italian Rolling Stone, Lear has put the matter plainly: either there will be a settlement, or it will go to court. Rolling Stone Italia ↗
