Sparta signs goalkeeper from West Ham, Křetínský to increase his stake

Football club Sparta, three days before the start of preparations for the new season, brought in its second summer signing. Twenty-three-year-old Hungarian goalkeeper Krisztián Hegyi arrives from England's West Ham United, having most recently been on loan at MTK Budapest. idnes.cz ↗

The goalkeeper's transfer comes shortly after Czech billionaire Daniel Křetínský, the majority owner of Sparta, announced that he would be strengthening his position at West Ham. His stake in the London club is set to rise from the current 27 percent to 43 percent, making him the largest shareholder in the club, which recently was relegated from the Premier League to the second tier of English football. sport.cz - hokej ↗

The increase in the stake is to take place through the company 1890 Holdings, which Křetínský controls. It will buy a significant portion of shares from the Gold family. This will strengthen Křetínský's influence in West Ham's leadership, although his stake will not reach an absolute majority. lidovky.cz ↗

The agreement also appears in connection with shareholders' response to allegations concerning David Sullivan. Co-chairmen Daniel Křetínský and Vanessa Gold expressed support for the women who came forward in the BBC investigation, while also agreeing on the change in ownership at the club. eurofotbal.cz ↗

Sparta also announced changes in communications. Kasík will become director of external relations, and the role of head of communications will be taken over by the current press spokesman, Pavel Jína. Further developments will depend on the completion of the ownership transaction at West Ham and on both clubs' sporting preparations ahead of the new season. irozhlas.cz ↗
