Trains through Žilina should return to full operation next week

Rail traffic through Žilina should return to full scope early next week. Railways of the Slovak Republic (ŽSR) continue removing the aftermath of a fire that damaged infrastructure at the Žilina railway station on September 30. kultura.pravda.sk ↗

The fire affected hundreds of meters of cabling and other elements of the railway infrastructure. Traffic around Žilina therefore continues to operate under an extraordinary regime. Several regular trains are not running, and passengers must use other train connections or bus transport. aktuality.sk ↗

Restoration work continues intensively. ŽSR plans to carry out a load test on Monday, which is meant to verify the readiness of the damaged infrastructure for a return to normal operation. If everything goes according to plan, the overhead traction line should be switched back on in the coming days. aktuality.sk ↗

Carriers also warn that during the extraordinary regime, the capacity of some connections may be limited. Passengers therefore may not be able to fit onto selected trains and must count on alternative solutions. zilinak.sk ↗

Full-scale train traffic through the important Žilina hub is expected next week. The final deadline will depend on the results of the load tests and on the successful completion of repairs to the damaged infrastructure. hnonline.sk ↗
