A meeting of the prime ministers of the Visegrád Four countries will take place in Budapest on June 23. This was announced by Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar following talks with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Berlin. According to him, the invitation was accepted by Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, and Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš. teraz.sk ↗
With this meeting, Magyar wants to revive the functioning of the V4 format, which in recent years has been burdened by differing positions among its members. The Hungarian prime minister also indicated that he could envision expanding cooperation to include other countries. Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš is set to meet Magyar within the V4 format for the first time. ta3.com ↗
Ukraine was also a topic of the talks in Berlin. Magyar stated that he is ready to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky next week. According to him, negotiations between Kyiv and Budapest on the issue of the Hungarian minority in Ukraine are currently taking place at the technical level. teraz.sk ↗
After the talks, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz described Magyar as a politician whom many people see as a bearer of hope. The upcoming V4 summit in Budapest will therefore be the first major test of the new Hungarian prime minister in regional politics and will show whether the format succeeds in restoring closer cooperation. aktuality.sk ↗
