Banned media sue Trump, other TV networks restrict news coverage
Videos
On Friday, Trump announced an immediate entry ban for these three newsrooms. He accused them of spreading "fake news" and also threatened that the measure could be extended to other media outlets as well. The decision triggered a reaction among major American television networks. El Mundo ↗
CBS, NBC, ABC and Fox subsequently announced that, in support of CNN, they would temporarily suspend or limit their coverage of President Trump's trips. The networks were responding to the administration's decision to exclude specific newsrooms from operating within the White House. Le Figaro ↗
The suing media outlets claim that the restriction of access interferes with journalists' work and prevents the public from obtaining information about the president's activities. According to them, the lawsuit is meant to ensure the return of reporters to the White House premises while the dispute is ongoing.
The conflict represents another dispute between the Trump administration and American media. A court will decide on further proceedings, while the television networks will address the extent of the restriction on their coverage of the president's trips. n-tv ↗
