Czech rapper, visual artist and one of the best-known figures of the local hip hop scene, Vladimir 518, will perform on Friday, October 9, 2026, at the Trenčín Garrison Club, known as the Okruhový dom armády (ODA). The concert at 8:30 p.m. is part of the Brutal Symposium program and belongs to the program of the European Capital of Culture Trenčín 2026. Vladimir 518, real name Vladimír Brož, has been on the scene since the 1990s. He started in the group Peneři strýčka Homeboye (PSH) and later continued as a solo artist as well. For the albums Gorila vs. Architekt (2008) and Idiot (2013) he received two Anděl awards in the Hip Hop and R'n'B category. He has collaborated with DJ Wich, Separ, Rytmus, Tata Bojs and Katarzia. The press release cites the track Vidím to, jako by to bylo včera, recorded with Katarzia and produced by Mike T, as an example of his work. The clip was released in 2023.
However, he is not coming to Trenčín merely as a rapper. He has long been mapping post-war architecture and is the author and editor of the book and television project Architektura 58–89. At the symposium he will present key buildings, authors and creative strategies of Czechoslovak post-war modernism, and will also introduce his other projects. GREGI.NET ↗
The venue fits the theme well. The Okruhový dom armády is one of the largest cultural houses in Slovakia. The late modernist building, built between 1978 and 1985, was designed by architects Bálent, Kočan and Horváth, who received the Dušan Jurkovič Award for it. The concert and symposium are organized by Projekt Hlava 5 as part of the Citlivo o brutalizme initiative, which focuses on urbanism, public space and brutalist architecture. GREGI.NET ↗
