The Jesus and Mary Chain and The Psychedelic Furs are joining forces and will cross Britain in January 2027 on a joint co-headline tour. Both bands met in the same format already in 2024, when they played a series of concerts in the United States this way. Far Out Magazine ↗
According to the press release, the bands will go "head to head" over eight evenings. The tour kicks off on 19 January at Leeds O2 Academy, followed by Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester, Bristol, Birmingham and Brighton. The Scots of The Jesus and Mary Chain are riding on the success of their eighth studio album Glasgow Eyes from March 2024, which followed on from Damage and Joy from 2017. The Psychedelic Furs, meanwhile, returned in 2020 with the album Made of Rain — their first studio effort in almost three decades. Far Out Magazine ↗
For listeners, this is a meeting of two different paths to the same sound: the Reid brothers built their reputation on feedback and noise that nevertheless held onto pop melody despite everything — "Just Like Honey" is a textbook example. Richard Butler and his Furs, meanwhile, brought to post-punk a raspy voice and saxophone that a generation remembers from the film Pretty in Pink.
