Slovakia's national hockey team faces serious losses ahead of the World Championship in Switzerland. Forward Peter Cehlárik, sidelined by injury, and defensemen Adam Žiak and Tomáš Královič have dropped out of the squad. The team's management made the decision six days before the start of the tournament. teraz.sk ↗
Cehlárik did not finish Saturday's exhibition match against Denmark precisely because of his ongoing health problems. The national team is thus losing an experienced player ahead of an important tournament. Coach Vladimír Országh had to face another difficult challenge as he decided on personnel changes to the lineup. ta3.com ↗
The Slovak hockey players' preparation produced mixed results. In Friday's match they lost to the Danes without scoring a goal, but in Saturday's game they returned with a convincing 4:2 victory in Spišská Nová Ves. After the match, Hrivík noted that without their best players, success will depend on a strong group and team spirit. Coach Országh emphasized that the team respects the players who decided not to play for the national team. sme.sk ↗
Slovakia will start the championship on Saturday at 12:15 with a match against Norway. The tournament is being held in Fribourg and Zurich and represents one of the important tests for the Slovak national team on the international hockey scene. SITA ↗
