Slavia Prague is preparing for its opening Champions League match against France's RC Lens. The match in Eden represents coach Jindřich Trpišovský's fifteenth attempt to win in the competition's main phase. His team is also striving for a better result than in previous participations. idnes.cz ↗
Trpišovský said the match will test whether Slavia has progressed since its last Champions League campaign. According to him, the Prague side must cope with the different demands of the European competition. „We're facing a test of whether we've made progress,“ the coach said. sport.cz - hokej ↗
Slavia is dealing with health problems affecting several players ahead of the match. Tomáš Holeš, Lukáš Provod and David Moses are among those sidelined, while David Zima had to withdraw during the previous match. Trpišovský also expressed concern about the severity of Provod's injury. seznamzpravy.cz ↗
The Lens opponents enter the match after a 0:1 home league defeat to Lorient. The French team lost for the second time in a row, with Mamadou Koné deciding the result in the 54th minute. Lens coach Dino Toppmöller described Slavia as a very unpleasant opponent and pointed to the boisterous atmosphere in Eden. denik.cz ↗
Abdallah Sima, who previously played for the Prague club, could line up for Lens against Slavia. Trpišovský predicts a big transfer for him further in his career. Slavia will thus enter the competition with a weakened lineup, but also with the ambition to break its ongoing wait for a first Champions League win. sport.cz ↗
