SaS and experts criticize Interior Ministry's "Na vlastnej koži" campaign, Chamber of Teachers advises schools against participation

The opposition party Freedom and Solidarity (SaS), together with representatives of the professional public, is criticizing the Interior Ministry's preventive campaign called "Na vlastnej koži" ("In Your Own Skin"), which uses an experiential approach to bring the issue of drugs and abuse closer to young people. According to Národná rada SR MP for SaS Martina Bajo Holečková, the professional public has, just a few days after the campaign's launch, been urging schools and parents not to take part in the event. Critics warn that intense audiovisual experiences can have the opposite effect to prevention and risk traumatizing children. teraz.sk ↗ domov.sme.sk ↗

The Interior Ministry interprets this differently. The ministry claims that classical lectures are no longer enough to reach young people and assumes that the interactive form of the campaign will be more effective. The ministry's leadership defends itself against the accusations and states that this is an educational event with a positive aim. SITA ↗ ekonomika.sme.sk ↗

The Slovak Chamber of Teachers has taken a clear stance. It officially does not recommend that schools take part in the "Na vlastnej koži" campaign, basing its position on concerns that the intense experiences could provoke fear and shock in children instead of positive education. SaS has also questioned the campaign's funding. The experts' decision to reject the campaign points to a discrepancy between the ministry's intent and the concerns of the teaching community and healthcare professionals regarding its suitability for young people. interez.sk ↗ ta3.com ↗
