The fire was stabilized on Sunday, and according to current information its perimeter was free of active hotspots. Hundreds of evacuated residents were therefore able to return home, while firefighters continued extinguishing remaining spots and checking the terrain. Earlier reports cited at least 12 dead, with the toll subsequently rising after another person died in hospital. SITA ↗

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez visited the affected area on Monday and met with emergency services. He stressed the need for better prevention and called for a broader agreement on responding to the climate emergency. According to available information, the cause of the fire is attributed to an electrical line fault, though the investigation and damage assessment are still ongoing. svet.sme.sk ↗
