Pilots of the German airline Lufthansa began a two-day strike on Thursday afternoon for higher pay and improved pension conditions. The strike, lasting two days, has affected operations at several airports in Germany and is also impacting air traffic from Slovakia. A number of connections between Prague on one side and Munich and Frankfurt am Main on the other have been cancelled. According to information from Lufthansa, up to sixty percent of flights on long-haul routes could still take off during the strike. The pilots' trade union Vereinigung Cockpit confirmed that the new strike will be smaller than the first wave of protest, which took place a month ago. For the German carrier, this is already the second major strike within the past month. Tourists and passengers can expect significant problems at airports and flight cancellations in the coming days, especially at the key airports in Munich and Frankfurt am Main.
