F1 legend Alain Prost was attacked and injured in a robbery at his home in Switzerland

Four-time Formula 1 world champion Alain Prost suffered a head injury during a robbery at his home near Lake Geneva. The 71-year-old former racer was attacked on Tuesday morning at a villa in Nyon, in the canton of Vaud. Several masked perpetrators broke into the house while the family was inside and forced one of Prost's sons to open the family safe. They then fled with its contents. The head injury the F1 legend sustained was, according to police, minor. The case was first reported by the Swiss daily Blick. sport.sk ↗ The Guardian ↗

The Vaud cantonal police and the regional department in Nyon launched an extensive search. Dog handlers, forensic technicians, and customs and border guards were deployed, and French gendarmes were also informed out of concern that the perpetrators had crossed the nearby border. The cantonal prosecutor's office has opened a criminal investigation. Police stated they are "making every effort to identify and apprehend the perpetrators." As of Saturday, they remained at large. Authorities are still compiling an exact list of items stolen from the safe. The Local ↗ Al Jazeera ↗

Prost, visibly shaken by the brutal break-in, left the house in Nyon after the robbery. Swiss media are drawing attention to a worrying trend of burglaries targeting wealthy residents of the Lake Geneva region, often carried out by cross-border gangs from France focused primarily on valuable watch collections. Prost ranks among the biggest names in motorsport history — during his career he won the Formula 1 world championship title four times and made his mark on motor racing through his talent and technical mindset.
