The fifty-nine-year-old former coach of Mainz, Dortmund and Liverpool signed a contract until 2030. Before presenting him, the DFB obtained the approval of its bodies and also resolved his ties to Red Bull. For releasing Klopp, it will pay one million euros to the Wings for Life foundation associated with Red Bull. Part of the agreement is also said to include a promise of three national team matches in Leipzig. hnonline.sk ↗

At the introductory press conference, Klopp spoke of expecting attractive football and at the same time warned the media of the boundaries he does not want crossed. According to several reports, he declared that if his family's privacy were violated, he would leave without severance pay. Rudi Völler framed his arrival as a long-awaited step and recalled Klopp's achievements. Spiegel.de ↗

The DFB is also strengthening its sporting leadership. Per Mertesacker will become the association's sporting director and is expected to work with the new coaching staff. The involvement of Sven Bender, who worked with Klopp at Dortmund, also remains a possibility. Deutschlandfunk ↗

The new coach takes over the team after another disappointment at a major tournament. Some commentary therefore points out that changing the coach alone will not solve the structural problems of German football. The first matches under Klopp's leadership are meant to show whether the national team can quickly return among the title contenders. Tagesspiegel ↗
