Honduras wants to buy Ukrainian drones to protect its borders and fight drug cartels. President Nasry Asfura announced this a week after visiting Kyiv, where he held talks with Volodymyr Zelensky. "These are drones to protect our borders and fight organized crime with cutting-edge technology," Asfura said, calling it a matter of national security. Euronews ↗
The Central American country is a major transit route for cocaine heading north, and domestic cultivation and processing of the drug is also on the rise. Gangs such as MS-13 and Barrio 18 keep it among the most violent countries in the world — with a murder rate of around 24 per 100,000 inhabitants, nearly four times the global average. The drones are meant to monitor remote border areas and target criminal groups. Arab News ↗
For Ukraine, the deal is a milestone. Drones that its military has developed for reconnaissance and long-range strikes since the Russian invasion in 2022 are becoming a sought-after export commodity. "In military and drone technology, Ukraine is today one of the strongest in the world," Zelensky declared. Neither the price nor the quantities have been disclosed yet. Kyiv Post ↗
