Fatima Al Qadiri Announces 3TWI EP. The Title Is Kuwaiti Slang for "Dirty Old Man"
Fatima Al Qadiri has announced a new EP titled 3TWI. The four-track recording borrows its name from Kuwaiti-Arabic women's slang meaning "dirty old man" and musically pays tribute to West Asian folk dance music. Longtime friends and collaborators Bobo Secret, Lama3an and Gumar feature as guests on it. The Quietus ↗
Alongside the announcement, the artist released the opening track 7ilween, which translates as "pretty young things". The video was directed by Sophia Al-Maria and, according to the press release, references popular Iraqi dance videos as well as queer memes from the Gulf region. The Quietus ↗
Fatima Al Qadiri was born in Senegal to Kuwaiti parents and, besides music, also works in conceptual art. She was added to SuperMusic.cz alongside the tracks Jade Stairs, Wudang and Dragon Tattoo from the album Asiatisch.
Besides her own albums, Al Qadiri is also known for film scores: she composed the soundtrack for Mati Diop's film Atlantics, which won the Grand Prix of the Jury at Cannes in 2019. Her tracks regularly work with the tension between synthetic production and West Asian melodicism.
