EU expands sanctions against Russian drone production

After previous unsuccessful negotiations, the European Union has adopted new sanctions against part of Russia's military-industrial complex. On Friday, the EU Council added one individual and five entities involved in drone production, related to Russia's war against Ukraine, to the sanctions list. ekonomika.pravda.sk ↗

This new development follows the Union's broader security agenda. Member states also discussed a further sanctions package against Russia, but postponed negotiations on a ban on the transport of Russian LNG until next week. Greece warned that such a ban could weaken European companies. teraz.sk ↗

On the twelfth anniversary of the downing of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17, the EU also once again called on Russia to accept responsibility for the deaths of 298 people on board and to cooperate in paying compensation. Also fitting into the context of pressure on Moscow is a report of an oil leak from a Russian ship near Oman, which had been sanctioned by the EU and Britain for transporting Russian oil. hnonline.sk ↗

The Ukrainian agenda also remains linked to internal developments in Kyiv. The Ukrainian parliament had earlier approved Serhiy Koretsky as the new prime minister, and the EU leadership congratulated him, emphasizing reforms and Ukraine's path into the Union. EU countries also agreed to extend temporary protection for Ukrainian refugees until March 4, 2028, with the new rules intended to better address men of fighting age. kultura.pravda.sk ↗
