Princess Diana's brother Charles Spencer states in his upcoming memoir that British King Charles III said, just days after her death, that she would soon be forgotten. The claim appeared in excerpts from the book "Swan Song: Diana, My Sister," due to be published next week. SITA ↗
Spencer also describes a dispute with the then Prince Charles after the decision that Diana's sons William and Harry would walk behind their mother's coffin in the funeral procession. According to the available excerpts, the conversation concerned the events following Diana's tragic death in Paris.
Buckingham Palace responded to the claims with an unusually open statement. It questioned Charles Spencer's recollections, stating that a sibling's grief can cloud judgment, affect the assessment of events, and color memory. The dispute has thus reopened old tensions linked to Diana's death and the royal family's subsequent decisions. seznamzpravy.cz ↗
In the book, Charles Spencer wants to present his own memories of his older sister. The first published passages have already drawn attention and contain serious accusations against the current king and the British royal house. Welt ↗
The book is expected to bring further details about family relationships and the events following Diana's death. The palace's response suggests that its publication could once again spark public debate about the circumstances of the royal family's mourning.
