The government of the Afghan Taliban movement has expressed deep concern over media reports on plans by the United States to deport dozens of Afghan migrants to Pakistan. From there, they would reportedly later return to Afghanistan. RTE News ↗
The plan concerns people whom the United States could transfer to Pakistan before their return to their country of origin. The Taliban warned that among those deported could be people who would face discrimination or persecution in Afghanistan under its rule. svet.sme.sk ↗
According to media reports, the US government under President Donald Trump is considering deporting Afghans via Pakistan. Details of the planned transfer, its timeline, and the exact number of people affected have not yet been disclosed. teraz.sk ↗
The Taliban's concerns relate mainly to the possible fate of people who, upon return, could find themselves in an uncertain or endangered position. The movement made its statement at a time when, according to reports, Washington is preparing further steps against Afghan migrants and people who are not to remain in the United States.
Further developments will depend on the decision of the US administration and on an agreement with Pakistan regarding the possible transit of deported individuals. It is not yet clear whether the plan will be carried out in the form originally reported, nor how Pakistan would respond to such a move.
