The Miles Davis and John Coltrane box set returns after twenty-five years
One of the most monumental documents of a meeting between two giants of jazz is returning to the market. On November 6, Columbia Records and Legacy Recordings will reissue the box set Miles Davis & John Coltrane – The Complete Columbia Recordings 1955–1961, which had been unavailable for more than twenty-five years. The box will be released on nine LPs as well as six CDs and maps out the decisive years of the two musicians' collaboration — a period that definitively transformed the linguistic vocabulary of modern jazz. At the same time, the double album The Best of Miles Davis & John Coltrane (1955–1961), which selects the most representative recordings from albums such as 'Round About Midnight and Milestones, is being released on vinyl for the first time. On SuperMusic.cz, Davis has eleven entries, including tablature for So What and lyrics for All Blues. Coltrane has three — Naima, Giant Steps arranged for guitar, and My Favorite Things.
Coltrane played in Davis's quintet during two periods, and it was precisely those years that culminated in the 1959 album Kind of Blue, which remains the best-selling jazz record in history to this day. Shortly after the collaboration ended, Coltrane fully developed his own path, which five years later culminated in A Love Supreme.
