Czech hockey forward David Pastrňák fired home an overtime goal to give Boston a 2:1 win over Buffalo, helping the team cut the deficit in the first-round NHL playoff series to 2:3 in games. Pastrňák thus warded off the immediate threat of Boston's elimination from the Stanley Cup playoffs. The game was played overnight into Wednesday on Buffalo's ice. denik.cz ↗ denik.cz ↗
Meanwhile, national team coach Radim Rulík is preparing for the May World Championship in Switzerland. He is already aware that if Boston were to be eliminated from the playoffs, he would gain more time to negotiate with Czech stars. Rulík is counting on forward Pavel Zacha and possibly Pastrňák himself, should their clubs' playoff runs end. idnes.cz ↗ irozhlas.cz ↗
However, two Czech players will not be able to join the world championship squad. Ondřej Kaše of Litvínov and Filip Chlapík of Sparta have apologized to the national team coach and will not be available. On the other hand, Rulík already has a confirmed leader of the defense in his roster. The best Czech defenseman in the NHL, Filip Hronek, took part in a training session in České Budějovice and is ready to represent his country at the World Championship. The coach can thus be certain of at least one key figure on the Czech team. isport.cz ↗ isport.cz ↗
