Among those offering congratulations was also President Petr Pavel, who sent the honoree a personal message. Svěrák remains active even at an advanced age – he still performs in the Jára Cimrman Theatre, although in some roles he now has an alternate. At the same time, he is working on a new book of short stories. His activity extends beyond the theater stage – his satirical fairy tale The Quiet Treadle Kingdom, which was considered lost in communist Czechoslovakia, has recently been rediscovered. irozhlas.cz ↗ blesk.cz ↗

The celebration was, however, accompanied by criticism as well. Politician Filip Turek attacked Svěrák over his participation in a demonstration, which he described as political involvement. Svěrák's longtime theater partner Miloň Čepelka, however, characterized him with the words: "Our trust has always been without end." The public is divided in its opinions of his work, which many consider a cultural treasure, while others view his political appearance critically. idnes.cz ↗ extra.cz ↗
