What is the Yellow Line
After the April ceasefire, the Israeli army marked out its own demarcation line in southern Lebanon, the so-called Yellow Line, roughly 4 to 8 kilometers from the Israeli-Lebanese border. It served as a buffer: Israeli forces were to remain behind it, while Hezbollah was to withdraw from the zone between this line and the border. Pravda.sk ↗The Yellow Line is not a UN line: that historically corresponds to the so-called Blue Line from 2000, and the Litani River also plays a special role, mentioned in UN Security Council Resolution 1701 of 2006 in connection with the deployment of Lebanese forces and UNIFIL. Tuesday's IDF advance north of the Yellow Line means Israel has expanded its operational framework beyond its own ceasefire commitments.
Scope of the attacks: Bekaa, southern Lebanon, evacuation
The town of Mashghara in the Bekaa Valley, Burj al-Shamali, and other villages in southern Lebanon were hit. Lebanese media also report attacks near Beaufort Castle, a 12th-century historic fortress that is on UNESCO's tentative list. BBC ↗The Israeli army also called on residents of 19 villages in southern Lebanon to evacuate. HNonline ↗ On Monday, at a meeting of the security cabinet, Prime Minister Netanyahu declared that Israel "is waging war with Hezbollah" and ordered the intensification of operations. Hezbollah has since been attacking northern Israeli communities with rockets and drones. iROZHLAS ↗

This is the highest daily death toll since the escalation in mid-May. Lidovky.cz ↗Since the start of the second Lebanese-Israeli war on March 2, 2026, a total of 3,213 people have died in Lebanon and 9,737 have been injured, according to tolls from the Lebanese Ministry of Health compiled by Al Jazeera. Ceasefire under pressure
The ceasefire, agreed on April 16–17, 2026 and extended by 45 days (valid until approximately July 1, 2026), has according to the BBC been "repeatedly violated by both sides." BBC ↗ The escalation comes at a time when US negotiations on a framework agreement involving Iran are proceeding in parallel — and every significant violation of the ceasefire in Lebanon complicates this framework. What hotinfo is following
