Karl Bushby returned to Hull after 28 years of walking journey

Bushby set out in 1998 from the southern tip of South America with the goal of circling the world on foot and returning home. During the expedition, he crossed rainforests, deserts, war zones, and territories with demanding bureaucratic conditions. He also faced dangers including crocodiles and polar bears. El Mundo ↗

Part of the journey included crossing the Caspian Sea by swimming. In some cases, he had to bend the project's rules by taking breaks involving air travel. However, he completed most of the route on foot, pulling a cart with equipment along with him. Der Standard ↗

He arrived in Hull on November 2, and hundreds of local residents welcomed him at Queen Victoria Square. The gathered supporters prepared a ceremonial welcome for him upon completion of the expedition, which was originally meant to take approximately twelve years but ultimately stretched to nearly three decades.
