Borussia Mönchengladbach ended its cooperation with coach Eugen Polanski after three rounds of the new German Bundesliga season. The club announced the decision on Sunday, a day after the heavy 0:5 defeat at SC Freiburg. teraz.sk ↗
Mönchengladbach failed to pick up a single point in its opening three league matches and sits at the bottom of the table. Freiburg settled the match with five goals scored by Yannik Engelhardt, Igor Matanović and Maximilian Eggestein. The visitors' captain Tim Kleindienst was also sent off after a second yellow card. Polanski joined the club in 2025 as a replacement for Gerardo Seoane. Last season he led the team to only 12th place. After a poor start to the new season, he became the first coach to be dismissed in the current Bundesliga season. Spiegel.de ↗
Pressure on the coach had already increased significantly after the match in Freiburg. Sporting director Rouven Schröder avoided a clear statement of support for Polanski at the time, leaving the coach's future uncertain. The club subsequently announced the end of the cooperation.
The team will be temporarily led by the current assistant, Jan-Moritz Lichte. Borussia Mönchengladbach now has to fill the vacant head coach position and try to halt the run of three league defeats. WDR Nachrichten ↗
