Kyiv calls for further EU sanctions, drone agreement added

After another attack, Ukraine called on the European Union to swiftly adopt a 21st package of sanctions against Russia and to speed up deliveries of further air defense resources. Ukraine's chief diplomat Sybiha thereby continued Kyiv's ongoing pressure on Moscow. aktuality.sk ↗

The European Union had already previously adopted new sanctions against part of Russia's military-industrial complex. The EU Council added one individual and five entities involved in drone production linked to Russia's war against Ukraine to the sanctions list. At the same time, the Union and Ukraine concluded an agreement on joint drone production. zurnal.pravda.sk ↗

The sanctions pressure also concerns Russia's shadow fleet. Ukraine's security service stated that Ukrainian forces have struck the fourth tanker of this fleet in the past ten days alone. The report of an oil leak from a Russian vessel near Oman fits the same context — the ship had been sanctioned by the EU and Britain for transporting Russian oil. hnonline.sk ↗

Member states also negotiated a further sanctions package against Russia, but postponed talks on banning the transport of Russian LNG. Greece warned that such a ban could weaken European companies. Meanwhile, Moscow warns that Europe may enter the heating season with record-low gas reserves. novinky.cz ↗

Ukraine's agenda also remains tied to internal developments in Kyiv. The Ukrainian parliament had earlier approved Serhiy Koretsky as the new prime minister, and EU leadership congratulated him, emphasizing reforms and Ukraine's path to the Union. At the same time, EU countries agreed to extend temporary protection for Ukrainian refugees until March 4, 2028. dennikn.sk ↗
