Magyar wants chess player Judit Polgár as president
Magyar stated that he wants to meet with Polgár and ask her whether she is prepared to serve the country in this new role until a new constitution is adopted. In a Sunday post on Facebook, he wrote that Hungary needs a head of state that every Hungarian can be proud of. zurnal.pravda.sk ↗
Polgár is one of the most prominent figures in world chess. Already as a teenager she played at the highest level and won Olympic titles on several occasions. Her possible appointment would therefore mean the arrival of a publicly known figure from outside traditional party politics into the highest constitutional office. teraz.sk ↗
Meanwhile, the ruling Fidesz party is downplaying the significance of the question of who will become the new head of state. According to its representatives, this question is irrelevant. Political developments are thus focusing on whether Polgár will accept the offer and how the filling of the presidential office will proceed after the end of Sulyok's mandate. zurnal.pravda.sk ↗
