Vitézy stood in for Magyar in parliament and spoke about EU funds

Hungary's parliament convened on Monday without Prime Minister Péter Magyar, who had traveled to Turkey for the NATO summit. At the start of the extraordinary session, he was replaced in the pre-agenda address by the Minister of Transport and Investment, Dávid Vitézy, who spoke mainly about the return of European money to Hungary. According to available information, Vitézy declared that a final decision on the European funds could be made on Friday. He also claimed that, in his view, Fidesz had misled the public in five areas concerning money from the European Union. Politician Dóra Dúró of the Mi Hazánk movement responded to his address, saying that the minister spoke about the process as though it were closed, when in her view it is not. Index.hu ↗

Other procedural motions were also raised at the session. Bálint Ruff, the minister in charge of running the Prime Minister's Office, proposed that MPs already debate the seventeenth amendment to the constitution under an accelerated procedure as early as Tuesday. The agenda also includes the topics of agent files and the evaluation of teachers' performance. Deputy Speaker Ágnes Forsthoffer also noted that Előd Novák had placed visual aids on the members' desks without permission, which were subsequently collected. Telex ↗

Magyar is set to attend the NATO summit on Tuesday and Wednesday together with Foreign Minister Anita Orbán and Defense Minister Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi. In domestic politics, attention is therefore currently shifting to Vitézy, who is simultaneously handling transport issues as well, including the renovation of Budakeszi Road, the condition of railway rolling stock, and the review of the motorway concession.
