Greens face threat of intra-party lawsuit after reform

The subject of the proceedings is legislation intended to allow security authorities to monitor communication in digital applications. According to the risks described, such an intervention could also expose unrelated private data to state security authorities, including vacation photos. DSN director Omar Haijawi-Pircher stated that irrelevant chats would be deleted without delay. Spiegel.de ↗

The court also had the technical side of the law explained by an IT expert. He pointed out that with this type of software, trust in its manufacturer is decisive, as is trust that the program actually does only what is declared. Tagesspiegel ↗

In Germany, the threat of a lawsuit has been added to the legal disputes surrounding the Greens following an intra-party vote on a sweeping party reform. Members approved changes to the statutes that strengthen the leadership and limit some elements of the party's previous grassroots democracy. According to new information, the possibility of a lawsuit before ordinary courts is being prepared within the party. n-tv ↗

At the same time, the question of judicial elections in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern remains open. In the state parliament in Schwerin, a joint motion by the SPD, the Left and the Greens failed to pass because it did not obtain the required two-thirds majority. The CDU and AfD parliamentary groups had already announced before the vote that they would not support the motion. Welt ↗
