Magyar accuses Orbán's government of migration U-turn in parliament
Magyar stated that the question of the camp had repeatedly come up at government negotiations for months. According to him, the authorities were supposed to relocate Hungarian refugees so that 500 migrants could be brought in, and ministers agreed to Orbán's proposal to build the facility. New information also emerged about a police presence, a fence, and the construction of a tower. László Toroczkai criticized the government for failing to explain what it would do, and recalled that, in his view, state secretaries and ministers had also been misleading on the Vitnyéd case. After its election defeat, Fidesz held a congress at which Orbán remained party chairman. Critical voices within the party, however, pointed out that the congress brought no real debate or clear understanding of the causes of the defeat. Orsolya Ferencz criticized Orbán's text on the defeat, and Tibor Navracsics described the congress as unremarkable. Orbán is also due to speak in July at Tusványos, to which Tisza politicians have also been invited. Telex ↗
Alongside the migration dispute, Magyar's government continues its agenda following the change of power. After an agreement on the rights of the Hungarian minority in Transcarpathia, Hungary withdrew its blockade of Ukraine's EU accession process, though Minister Anita Orbán stated that the process would automatically halt if Kyiv fails to fulfill the agreement. Further developments will depend on parliamentary votes, Fidesz's reaction, and whether the government manages to translate these political disputes into a stable reform agenda. Der Standard ↗
